It is always best to call in a competent person to inspect a lift or escalator. Attempting to do this yourself is strongly discouraged unless you are fully competent to do so. You can, however, perform a few essential checks to identify problems:

  1. Ride the lift to assess whether the lift operates smoothly.
  2. Listen carefully for any unusual noises.
  3. Ensure the tracks are free of debris.
  4. Verify that the doors close correctly.
  5. Make sure the indicators are functioning.
  6. Test the auto-dialler.
  7. Press all the buttons to confirm they illuminate.
