It is always best to call in a competent person to inspect a lift or escalator. Attempting to do this yourself is strongly discouraged unless you are fully competent to do so. You can, however, perform a few essential checks to identify problems:
- Ride the lift to assess whether the lift operates smoothly.
- Listen carefully for any unusual noises.
- Ensure the tracks are free of debris.
- Verify that the doors close correctly.
- Make sure the indicators are functioning.
- Test the auto-dialler.
- Press all the buttons to confirm they illuminate.
