Lift Installation

ILECS identified a feasible solution for the complete installation of a new passenger lift in a private residential home.

Requirement

Our client’s requirement was for a new lift to be installed in their home. So, it was necessary to find a convenient space within the property that would allow a lift well to be constructed without taking up too much space.

It needed to serve all floors of the property at which there were party wall, noise and vibration issues as well as limitations on the height of any projections above the existing roof level.

Solution

Feasibility study

From carrying out a feasibility study at site, we were able to find space where a lift well 1,000mm wide and 1,050mm deep could be installed. This would allow the installation of a lift car with interior dimensions of 800mm wide x 800mm deep.

Tender analysis

After sharing the findings with our client, we produced a specification and pre-construction plan, and lift contractors were invited to tender for the lift installation works. We analysed the tenders and advised our client on recommended contractors for the lift works.

Lift installation

We project managed the works on behalf of our client, ensuring that the works were completed smoothly and with minimal disruption to their home. All of the works were monitored by us during the installation phase and we carried out a witness test following the project's completion.

To eliminate the need for fixings on the party wall, fixings were made to the side walls. Noise and vibration were eliminated by isolating the guides and installing an energy efficient hydraulic power unit in a remote machine room.

Benefits

Energy efficiency

We recommended that the lift installation use an energy efficient hydraulic power unit in a remote machine room.

Optimal design and fixings

To eliminate the need for fixings on the party wall, we optimised the fixings for the lift by using the side walls instead. By incorporating a hydraulic lift with isolated guides, we were also able to eliminate any noticeable noise and vibrations that the lift could create.

Smooth running

During the design stage of the project, we ensured that there was no noticeable bounce in the lift car that can occur with hydraulic lifts. Following the lift installation, the lift ran quietly, with no noticeable noise or vibration on any landings as the lift passed, or when the car doors opened or closed.
