Meet ILECS at the 51st Annual AUE Conference

AUE Conference 2023

ILECS are delighted to return to the 51st Annual Association of University Engineers (AUE) Conference 2023, being held at The University of Warwick, which will run from Wednesday 6th September - Friday 8th September.

An insightful programme is lined up to cover this years theme 'Engineering Compliance for a Sustainable Future'. The Conference will showcase technological advancements, innovative and sustainable solutions, whilst meeting the needs and demands set in legislation.

There are multiple challenges faced by Universities and their Estates Engineers today; therefore, the role of the engineer has to rapidly and significantly evolve and adapt. There are increasing legislative burdens as part of National and Global Sustainability requirements, whilst maintaining a cost-effective estate, ensuring resilience and reliability as the climate changes, and meeting the changing needs and expectations of customers.

What is The AUE?

The Association of University Engineers promotes and supports Higher Education Estates professional staff within all engineering functions, including: design, operation, maintenance, projects, facilities, energy and sustainability.

The association is served by an executive committee, who meet four times a year to discuss many topics which include training programmes, action plans and strategy for the direction of the AUE.

What's on the Agenda at The AUE Conference 2023

The 2023 AUE conference theme 'Engineering Compliance for a Sustainable Future' considers two key themes that Engineers face today; integrating innovative and sustainable technologies into our existing estates, and Building Services compliance.

To kick off the three-day event, excursions to Windmill Hill Brewery, Warwick Castle, and the Coventry Transport Museum have been organised prior to the official opening of the trade exhibition and welcome dinner.

Delegates will then attend a number of thought-provoking plenary sessions and workshops consisting of:

  2. The SMART approach to net zero carbon
  3. Engineering compliance friend or foe?

How to get to The University of Warwick

The University campus is located three miles from the centre of Coventry, on the border with Warwickshire. It has great public transport links with Birmingham too.

If you're travelling by car, the postcode to key into your sat nav is CV4 7AL, which takes you to the University's central campus. When you reach campus there are signs at all main roundabouts to each of the major areas of campus and you should follow the road signs to "Central Campus".

Alternatively, if you’re planning on travelling by rail, there are various rail stations that are easily accessed from the campus and they offer excellent links to Birmingham, London and many other major UK cities. Coventry Rail Station, approximately four miles from the campus, is the nearest main-line train station to the University. You can easily reach Coventry Rail Station from London (Euston) and Birmingham, which run regular and frequent services direct to Coventry. During weekdays trains from Birmingham New Street depart for Coventry on average every 10 minutes. The journey takes between 20-30 minutes depending on which service is used.

The station that serves Birmingham Airport is Birmingham International. During weekdays trains depart from Birmingham International to Coventry on average every 10 minutes. The journey takes between 10-15 minutes depending on which service is used.
