ILECS is proud to have supported Dedham Therapy Farm with a £500 Christmas donation, which has now contributed to the successful purchase of a new alpaca, affectionately named Jeff.
Located near ILECS’ head office in Essex, Dedham Therapy Farm provides vital occupational therapy and animal-assisted activities for individuals of all ages. Thanks to contributions like this, the farm continues to expand its offering, creating a safe and supportive environment for those managing mental health conditions, learning disabilities, neurological challenges, and recovery from trauma.
Supporting a Cause That Makes a Difference
Originally made during the festive period, the donation has now come full circle with the arrival of Jeff, a gentle and calming addition to the farm’s growing community of therapy animals, including alpacas, goats, pigs, donkeys, sheep, chickens, dogs, guinea pigs and even a tortoise.
Dave Marks and Lewis Brooks of the ILECS team were recently invited to visit the farm, meet Jeff and the other animals, and experience firsthand the positive impact of the farm’s work. The visit offered valuable insight into how animal interaction and structured activities can support emotional wellbeing, build confidence, and encourage independence.
What Is Occupational Therapy and Why Does It Matter?
Occupational therapy is a form of healthcare that helps individuals participate more fully in daily life, despite challenges caused by illness, injury, disability or mental health conditions. At Dedham Therapy Farm, occupational therapy is uniquely combined with animal care, gardening, and hands-on farm tasks, helping participants:
- Build confidence and social skills
- Improve physical coordination and stamina
- Develop responsibility and independence
- Support emotional regulation and wellbeing
Participants might walk dogs, groom goats, tend to vegetable patches, feed chickens, assist with farm repairs, or simply connect with animals in a safe, supported space. It’s therapy in its most natural, engaging form, and it works.
A Shared Commitment to Community
Dave Marks, Business Development Manager at ILECS, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to support Dedham Therapy Farm and to see our donation contribute to something so meaningful. Meeting Jeff and witnessing the impact the farm has on people’s lives was a fantastic experience for our team. It’s a reminder of how important community-focused initiatives like this are.”
